Oswaldo Guayasamín

Born in Quito in 1919, this humble artist from Ecuador, friend of Pablo Neruda, dedicated his life to painting, sculpture and collecting.

Despite his low income family background, I must point out that he started working as a taxi truck driver, he managed to share his inner feelings using the oil on canvas as a universal language. He travelled around Latin America, the United States and Europe, sharing his concerns about the world and his particular way of depicting it.

As the great observer he was, during his travels he would observe lifestyle and poverty and show them in his paintings with an extreme sense of expression.

He was given the a price for "an entire life of work for peace", which shows his most humanitarian side. A real man with an authentic sense of reality, plus the wonderful skill of painting.
